As part of its efforts to ease the traffic strain on the Emirate and improve the effective use of the roads, Dubai has commissioned two new Salik toll gates.
In the aftermath of the launch of the two new Salik toll gates by the Roads and Transport Authority on November 24, 2024, one gate will be located in Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road while the other will be placed at al Safa south on Sheikh Zayed Road, between ‘Al-Meydan’ and ‘Umm Al Sheif’ Streets
While pedestrian comfort was one of the main goals behind RTA’s planning, the implementation of these new tolls focuses on altering the distribution of vehicles and lowering congestion in other areas more than it does on reducing dependence on roads. Initially, a 15% cut in traffic is anticipated on Al Khail Road at the Business Bay Crossing gate, which is thought to shift traffic towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Emirates Roads. The Al Safa South toll gate also wants to minimize traffic turning on Al Meydan Street off Sheikh Zayed Road by 15% and clear the congestion from the nearby streets.
Avoiding the extra toll by charging motorists who used one of the two Al Safa gates, in the hour previously passed through the other Al Safa gate (either) (north and south) aims to control the level of traffic service and congestion.
Hence, these efforts are consistent with Dubai’s efforts to improve transport infrastructure, encourage the use of public transport, and use advanced mobility systems, resulting in a more efficient transport system.
