Under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), launched the Dubai Photography Museum project.
The museum aims to preserve and document the history of photography, offering a blend of interactive exhibits and educational experiences. It highlights the journeys of both local and international photographers, further establishing Dubai as a global hub for culture, creativity, and talent.
A Platform for Innovation and Heritage
Speaking about the initiative, Sheikha Latifa emphasized Dubai’s commitment to fostering innovation and preserving cultural heritage. “The Dubai Photography Museum represents a milestone in our efforts to position Dubai as a global hub for photographers. It will act as a platform for knowledge exchange, celebrate cultural diversity, and contribute to preserving photography’s legacy for future generations,” she said.
The museum will also promote cultural tourism and strengthen the UAE’s creative industries, aligning with key strategic goals such as the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040 and the Dubai Plan 2030.
Global Reach and Collaboration
A collaboration between Dubai Culture and the private sector, the museum will feature both permanent and temporary exhibits, encouraging creative exchanges and collaboration. The initiative is also part of efforts to elevate Dubai’s cultural tourism, with the photography market expected to reach $62.4 billion globally by 2027.
In addition, Dubai Culture will launch a global architectural competition in 2025, inviting architects to design the museum, with a prize of AED 1 million.
The Dubai Photography Museum will not only preserve visual memories but also provide a platform for global talent to share expertise, ensuring its place as a world-leading hub for photography.
