Dubai Metro

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed the launch of the Dubai Metro Blue Line. The project is scheduled for completion by September 9, 2029, and promises to further enhance Dubai’s public transport network, already regarded as one of the world’s finest.

A DH20.5 billion contract has been awarded to three leading construction firms—Turkey’s Mapa and Limak, and China’s CRRC. The 30-kilometer line will boost interconnectivity across Dubai, providing residents and visitors with seamless access to key areas and improving overall transportation efficiency.

The choice of September 9 for the launch holds symbolic significance. It aligns with the 20th anniversary of Dubai Metro’s inauguration, which took place on 9-9-2009 at exactly 9:09 PM. This careful selection reinforces the metro’s historic association with the number “9” and underscores the city’s meticulous approach to planning.

The addition of the Blue Line is a cornerstone in Dubai’s ongoing efforts to expand its metro system. It reflects the city’s focus on offering high-quality, sustainable public transport options that support economic growth and urban development.

Aligned with the RTA’s 2030 vision, the Blue Line is expected to play a key role in Dubai’s transformation into a smart city. This development not only enhances connectivity but also highlights Dubai’s leadership in innovative transport solutions, positioning it as a global model for intelligent infrastructure and urban excellence.
