Dubai Expands Electric Vehicle Network with Over 740 Charging Points

Dubai Expands Electric Vehicle

Dubai is stepping up its game in the electric vehicle (EV) sector. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) recently announced that it has expanded its EV Green Charger network to over 740 charging points across the city. This development comes as the number of electric vehicles on Dubai’s roads climbs to more than 34,870.

Since its launch in 2014, DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative has played a key role in promoting sustainable transportation. The network includes a variety of charging options, from ultra-fast and fast chargers to wall-mounted units in public spaces. Over 16,800 residents and businesses have already used these facilities, highlighting the community’s growing commitment to greener transportation choices.

Dubai has set its sights on an ambitious target: by 2050, half of all vehicles in the UAE should be electric. To help achieve this, DEWA plans to expand its network to at least 1,000 charging stations by 2025, ensuring the city’s infrastructure can support the rising adoption of EVs.

In a significant move, DEWA recently granted Tesla and UAEV their first Independent Charge Point Operator licenses. These partnerships aim to attract more private investment into EV infrastructure, which will play a critical role in accelerating the city’s green mobility goals.

To enhance convenience, DEWA has made charging station information available on its website, mobile app, and other digital platforms. This ensures that EV owners can locate and use charging points across the city without hassle, making it easier to embrace sustainable travel.

Dubai’s proactive approach to expanding its EV infrastructure demonstrates its commitment to environmental sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. By combining strategic initiatives with public and private partnerships, the city is making great strides toward achieving its vision for a cleaner, greener future.
