UAE Launches First Ever Green License to Attract Environmentally Friendly and Sustainable Companies

Green License

Expo City Dubai has announced the launch of the “Green License”, a pioneering initiative aimed at attracting companies committed to environmental and social sustainability. This is the first license of its kind in the UAE and is designed to simplify business setup and operations for sustainability-focused enterprises.

The launch coincides with the unveiling of the UAE’s first Sustainability Innovation Hub, a joint initiative by the Ministry of Economy and Tourism and Expo City Dubai. The hub seeks to redefine industrial development by integrating economic growth, environmental responsibility, and social impact.

A Boost to Sustainable Industry

Developed with the support of four strategic partners, the hub is expected to draw global companies and accelerate the UAE’s green transition. It supports national goals like the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy and UAE Centennial 2071 by promoting clean energy, circular economy practices, and innovative green technologies.

As part of this vision, the Ministry of Economy and Tourism will also establish an Intellectual Property Office within the hub to drive innovation and research.

Why Expo City Dubai?

Expo City Dubai is positioned as the ideal location for sustainable businesses, thanks to its ready infrastructure, strategic location between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, and a legacy of hosting global sustainability events like Expo 2020 Dubai and COP28. The city features a world-class free zone, award-winning green facilities, and is committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Strategic Partnerships Driving Change

  • Intesa Sanpaolo Bank: Will support the Green Innovation Zone, continuing its global leadership in circular economy financing, having already invested €14 billion globally.

  • Nestle: Will contribute R&D expertise and support sustainable industrial growth through knowledge transfer.

  • Majra Fund: The UAE’s national CSR fund will guide impactful projects through initiatives like the “Sustainable Impact Challenge.”

  • Palmade: A Dubai-based company that transforms palm fronds into biodegradable products, expanding its sustainable operations at Expo City.

A Model for Circular Economy and Climate Action

Minister of Economy and Tourism, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, emphasized that the hub will serve as a catalyst for green entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable industrial growth. The initiative will help develop solutions in renewable energy and green electricity, supporting the UAE’s ambition to become a global green economy leader.

Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Expo City Authority, highlighted the project’s alignment with Expo City’s legacy of sustainability and its role in building an interconnected, circular economy community.
