UAE Introduces 10-Year Blue Visa to Support Environmental Changemakers

10-Year Blue Visa

The UAE has launched the first phase of its Blue Visa, a 10-year residency program aimed at individuals who have made significant contributions to environmental protection and sustainability.

The announcement came during the World Governments Summit 2025, which is currently taking place in Dubai from February 11 to 13. The initiative is being led by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP).

Who is Eligible for the Blue Visa?

The Blue Visa is designed for individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, both in the UAE and internationally. The program targets:

  • Members of international environmental organizations
  • Professionals from global sustainability-focused companies
  • Researchers and scientists specializing in climate change and conservation
  • Award-winning environmentalists and activists
  • Leaders in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focused on sustainability

To kick off the program, 20 sustainability experts and innovators have already been selected to receive the Blue Visa in this initial phase.

A Natural Progression in the UAE’s Sustainability Vision

The Blue Visa builds on the success of other long-term residency initiatives, such as the Golden and Green Visas, which were introduced to attract skilled professionals in various industries. This new visa specifically supports environmental leaders, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to climate action and sustainability.

Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized the importance of this initiative in bringing the world’s best environmental minds to the UAE.

“The UAE is committed to strengthening its position as a global sustainability leader. The Blue Visa is part of a broader strategy to attract leading thinkers and innovators whose work is shaping a more sustainable future. Their expertise will help us achieve ambitious national and global environmental goals.”

How to Apply for the Blue Visa

Eligible individuals can apply directly through the ICP’s website and mobile application. Additionally, competent UAE authorities in the sustainability sector can nominate professionals who meet the criteria.

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of ICP, confirmed that the Blue Visa service will be available 24/7, making the application process as seamless as possible for those who qualify.

With the UAE continuing to position itself as a leader in green innovation and sustainability, the launch of the Blue Visa signals a strong commitment to fostering environmental progress—both at home and on the global stage.
