Dubai is set to break ground on a major infrastructure project that promises to reshape traffic flow in the heart of the city. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced plans to construct a massive eight-lane bridge across Dubai Creek, aimed at easing congestion and improving connectivity between Deira and Bur Dubai — two of the city’s busiest districts.

The project, valued at Dh786 million, forms part of a broader urban development strategy that seeks to accommodate the emirate’s growing population and support its rapid expansion. With four lanes in each direction, the bridge is expected to handle up to 24,000 vehicles every hour, significantly reducing travel time across one of Dubai’s most congested corridors.

“This bridge is more than just a traffic solution — it’s an investment in the future of urban mobility in Dubai,” said an RTA spokesperson. “The goal is to ensure smoother movement between key commercial and residential zones while keeping pace with the city’s development.”

Standing 15.5 meters above the water, the new structure will also allow for uninterrupted marine traffic below, maintaining the creek’s longstanding role as a bustling waterway. The bridge will extend over 1.5 kilometers and include pedestrian paths, reinforcing the city’s commitment to accessibility and sustainable design.

Beyond traffic relief, the project is expected to complement surrounding development projects in the area, including revitalization efforts in Al Shindagha and Deira. The initiative is part of the broader Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Corridor Improvement Project, which also includes upgrades to road networks stretching from Al Khail Road to Cairo Street.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the coming months, though an exact timeline for completion has yet to be confirmed. Once finished, the bridge will stand as a critical link in Dubai’s ever-evolving transport infrastructure — one designed not just for the present, but for a smart, connected future.
