Dubai International Airport continued its strong presence at the top of the global aviation rankings after recording the highest international seat capacity in September 2026, maintaining its position as the world’s busiest airport by this measure.

According to data from OAG, the international aviation analytics company specializing in airport and airline data, carriers operating at Dubai International scheduled around 4.34 million seats on international flights during September. This is equivalent to approximately 8.68 million seats when traffic in both directions is included.

The performance highlights the continued strength of travel demand through Dubai, supported by the expansion of international flight networks and higher operating capacity among airlines.

Dubai International Outpaces London Heathrow

London Heathrow Airport ranked second globally, with around 4 million international seats, while Seoul Airport moved into third place with 3.78 million seats.

Amsterdam Airport came in fourth with approximately 3.69 million seats, followed by Istanbul Airport in fifth place with 3.59 million seats.

The figures reflect Dubai International Airport’s continued lead over some of the world’s largest aviation hubs, supported by its role as a major international transit center connecting passengers across different continents.

95.2 Million Passengers in 2025

Dubai International Airport also maintained its position in 2025 as the world’s largest airport by international passenger numbers, holding the top spot for the 12th consecutive year, according to the annual report from Airports Council International.

The airport welcomed 95.2 million passengers during the year, representing growth of 3.1% compared with 2024 and making 2025 the busiest year in the airport’s history.

The strong performance continued the airport’s steady growth in international travel, as it strengthened its ability to meet rising passenger demand and connect Dubai with a wide range of global markets.

Strong Travel Activity in the First Half of 2026

During the first six months of 2026, Dubai International Airport welcomed 31.5 million passengers, as airline operating capacity continued to return and travel demand increased during the second quarter.

By the end of the first half of the year, the airport was serving 50 international airlines and offering connections to 217 destinations across 99 countries, reflecting the broad global network available to passengers through Dubai International.

Aircraft load factors also continued to improve, approaching the levels recorded in 2025 as international air connectivity expanded and more capacity returned to key markets.
