The UAE moved to underline the strength of its food security system this week, as Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri visited Great Mills to review local flour production, distribution operations, and the country’s strategic stock levels. The visit was intended to reinforce coordination between the public and private sectors and to confirm that flour, feed, and other essential goods continue to be supplied without disruption.
Bin Touq said the UAE has built an advanced food security infrastructure based on international best practices, helping the country expand its food industries and improve the production readiness of manufacturers. He added that local flour producers, including Great Mills, are playing an important role in meeting domestic demand efficiently while also strengthening the presence of Emirati food products in export markets.
Daily Monitoring of Stocks and Supply Chains
According to the minister, the government has adopted a proactive approach to managing strategic reserves and supply chains to ensure that food products continue to reach the market in sufficient quantities. He said the Ministry of Economy and Tourism works daily with local economic departments and other relevant authorities to monitor stock levels at suppliers and retail outlets, while also carrying out detailed assessments of supply adequacy for each commodity. Periodic reviews are also conducted to evaluate both strategic reserves and broader supply and demand conditions.
During the tour, Bin Touq reviewed Great Mills’ internal operations and its near term plans, including flour production, grain supply chain management, and animal feed manufacturing. The visit also highlighted the company’s wider consumer business activities, which include a portfolio of brands and a broad distribution network across the UAE.
Great Mills Highlights Its Role in National Supply
Salmeen Alameri, Managing Director and Chief Executive of Agthia Group, said the minister’s visit reflected the strategic role Great Mills plays in supporting the UAE’s food security framework. As a core part of Agthia, he said, the company continues to align its operations with the group’s broader strategic direction, reinforcing its position as a key contributor to the country’s food supply system.
Alameri added that the company’s operational efficiency and flexible, reliable supply chains allow it to maintain the uninterrupted availability of flour and feed while helping preserve the stability of essential goods in the market. In his view, that consistency strengthens the long-term sustainability of the UAE’s food security model and supports the country’s wider resilience.
Capacity Expansion Remains Part of the Plan
Great Mills said it already operates with strong production capacity that helps meet domestic market needs, and it is preparing for further expansion. The company has future plans to increase output in line with rising demand, a move that would add another layer of support to the UAE’s long-term food security strategy.
