Dubai has reported steady growth in its power generation capacity in recent years, reflecting rising demand driven by population growth, urban expansion, and ongoing economic activity.

According to data from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the emirate’s total installed electricity generation capacity reached 17,979 megawatts by the end of 2025, up from 13,417 megawatts in 2021. This marks an increase of 34% over the four-year period. Water production capacity also saw a slight rise, reaching 495 million gallons per day in 2025, compared to 490 million gallons per day in 2021.

Customer accounts continued to grow as well. Electricity accounts increased to 1,281,367 by the end of 2025, up from 1,061,476 in 2021, reflecting a 20.71% increase. Water accounts rose to 1,156,463, compared to 960,032 in 2021, an increase of 20.46%. In total, the number of electricity and water accounts reached 2,437,830.

This growth aligns with Dubai’s ongoing expansion across residential, commercial, and tourism sectors. New housing developments, business hubs, and hospitality projects have all contributed to higher demand for electricity and water services, requiring continuous upgrades to infrastructure and production capacity.

To address future needs, DEWA is planning its energy projects based on demand forecasts extending to 2030, taking into account both demographic and economic trends, which remain key drivers of energy consumption.

At the same time, Dubai continues to invest in renewable energy as part of its strategy to transition toward clean energy by 2050. This approach aims to diversify energy sources and ensure long-term sustainability of supply.

DEWA is also integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and energy storage solutions to improve operational efficiency and support grid stability.

The emirate’s approach reflects a balanced effort to meet growing demand while maintaining a focus on sustainability and long-term planning.
